Introducing the Light Adjustable Lens™ from RxSight®

Despite advancements in cataract surgery, many patients don't achieve their desired vision after cataract surgery due to unpredictable healing. The Light Adjustable Lens is the first and only intraocular lens (IOL) offering post-surgery customization, allowing you to adjust your vision based on personal preferences. Through quick office-based light treatments, you can optimize your vision for various distances. Studies show that the Light Adjustable Lens significantly improves visual outcomes compared to standard lenses, with twice as many patients achieving 20/20 distance vision without glasses.

Why Choose The LAL?

All intraocular lenses can deliver good vision, but nonadjustable lenses still cannot predictably yield optimal outcomes. And because every eye heals slightly differently after surgery, getting close to the predicted outcome is often the best result a patient can expect. If the visual target is not achieved, patients may need to wear glasses, contacts, or in some cases, have additional procedures such as LASIK surgery to achieve optimal results.

How Does the LAL work?

The Light Adjustable Lens is made of a special photosensitive material that changes the shape and power of your implanted lens in response to ultraviolet (UV) light. Light treatments are delivered in your doctor’s office with the Light Delivery Device (LDD). If you select the LAL, your first step is to undergo cataract surgery with implantation of the light adjustable lens. Once your eye is healed, your doctor will test your vision and you will get a chance to test drive your vision.

If you’re not satisfied, your doctor will recommend up to 3 additional treatments to adjust your vision to your desired lifestyle preferences. Once you have reached your desired vision goals, a final light treatment is needed to lock in your results.

What to expect Following your Cataract surgery

After cataract surgery with the Light Adjustable Lens, you are required to wear ultraviolet (UV) protective glasses until after your final light treatment a few weeks after your surgery. You will be provided the UV protective glasses shortly after your surgery. They may be removed when sleeping and temporarily removed when showering, washing your face, or applying eyedrops taking care to avoid exposure to direct sunlight. Twenty-Four hours after your final light treatment, no further changes can be made to the implanted Light Adjustable Lens, and you can remove the UV protective glasses and enjoy custom vision!

How Are Light Treatments Performed?

Your doctor will provide your UV light treatment in-office with the Light Delivery Device (LDD). The LDD noninvasively delivers UV light to your Light Adjustable Lens and adjusts your vision to your desired target. The system gives your doctor the flexibility to make adjustments and refinements to meet your specific needs. You will receive between 3-5 total light treatments, each lasting approximately 90 seconds. Once you have achieved optimal vision, the lens power is permanently locked in with a final treatment.
