Dr. Choi's path to this milestone reflects years of focused training and leadership. After graduating at the top of his class at the University of Illinois Chicago College of Medicine, he completed his residency and fellowship at the University of Miami's Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, where he trained with leading experts in LASIK, laser cataract surgery, corneal transplantation, and ocular surface tumors.
His involvement in setting national standards is not new. Dr. Choi is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology Preferred Practice Panel, which sets the standards for eye care in the United States. He is also a listed co-author on numerous publications in Ophthalmology- the go to journal for ophthalmologist.
Here at home, he serves as an assistant clinical professor at the University of Hawaiʻi John A. Burns School of Medicine and is the medical director of the Lions Eye Bank of Hawaiʻi. He has been named a Top Doctor in Hawaii by Honolulu Magazine in every year he has been eligible, and other eye surgeons routinely refer difficult cataract surgeries and complex corneal surgeries to him.
