What to Expect on the Day of Your Cataract Surgery

Arrival and Check-In

On the day of your surgery, you will arrive at our surgical center, where our friendly staff will check you in and ensure that all necessary paperwork is completed. It’s important to have a trusted friend or family member with you, as you won’t be able to drive yourself home after the procedure.

Pre-Operative Preparation

Once checked in, you’ll be guided to the pre-operative area, where our team will prepare you for surgery. This includes:

The Cataract Surgery Procedure

Cataract surgery is a quick and highly effective procedure. Our expert surgeon, Dr. Daniel Choi, will use advanced technology to remove the clouded lens and replace it with a state-of-the-art intraocular lens (IOL). The process typically takes about 10-15 minutes per eye. If you’ve opted for the Light Adjustable Lens (LAL), you’ll have the opportunity to fine-tune your vision after surgery for the best possible outcome.

Post-Operative Recovery

After surgery, you will rest in a recovery area for a short time while our team monitors you. Most patients feel well enough to go home within 30 minutes. You will be given protective eyewear and post-operative care instructions, including using prescribed eye drops to aid healing and prevent infection.

Returning Home and Recovery

You may notice immediate improvements in vision, though it can take a few days for your eyesight to fully adjust. Most patients experience minimal discomfort and can resume normal activities within a few days, with some restrictions, such as avoiding heavy lifting and rubbing the eye. A follow-up appointment will be scheduled to monitor your healing progress.

A Life-Changing Procedure

Same-day cataract surgery is a safe, effective, and life-changing procedure. At Cataract and Vision Center of Hawaii, we take pride in offering the highest level of care to ensure the best outcomes for our patients.
